Tips for Great Text Overlays

Choosing the Right Background

  • Use images with negative space - Areas without too much detail make text easier to read
  • Consider contrast - Dark images work well with white text (which this tool uses)
  • Avoid busy patterns - Simple, clean backgrounds let your message stand out
  • High resolution matters - Start with a high-quality image for the best results

Writing Effective Text

  • Keep it short - The best overlays have 3-7 words for maximum impact
  • Use action words - "Discover", "Learn", "Join" grab attention
  • Match the mood - Serious quotes on moody images, fun text on bright photos
  • Test positioning - Try different placements to see what looks best

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you store the images I upload?

No. Your privacy is important to us. All image processing is done directly in your browser. Your images are never uploaded or stored on our servers.

What's the best image size to upload?

For best results, we recommend uploading an image with a 3:2 aspect ratio (e.g., 1200x800 pixels or 1800x1200 pixels). However, the tool will automatically crop and center any image to fit the preview area.

Why does my downloaded image look slightly different from the preview?

The tool uses the html2canvas library, which takes a "screenshot" of the preview area. Minor differences in how your browser renders fonts and gradients can sometimes result in a slightly different output. We recommend downloading in PNG format for the highest quality.

Can I use custom fonts or change the text color?

Currently, this tool uses a standard, highly-readable web font to ensure reliability. Advanced customization options like changing fonts and colors are not available at this time.

What image formats can I download?

PNG - Best quality, supports transparency, larger file size. Ideal for graphics with text.
JPEG - Smaller file size, good for photos, no transparency. Best for web sharing.
WEBP - Modern format with excellent compression and quality. Supported by most browsers.

Can I use this tool for commercial purposes?

Yes! Images you create with this tool are yours to use however you like, including for commercial purposes. Just ensure you have the rights to use your source background image.

Why is my text hard to read on some images?

The tool adds a dark overlay to improve text readability, but very bright or busy images can still be challenging. Try using images with areas of solid color or low detail where your text will appear, or position text over darker areas of your image.

Is there a file size limit for uploads?

Since all processing happens in your browser, there's no server-imposed limit. However, very large images (over 10MB) may be slow to process depending on your device. For best performance, we recommend images under 5MB.
